Emilia earned her Ph.D. in General Linguistics and Phonetics from St. Petersburg State University in St. Petersburg, Russia, where she defended her dissertation in Linguistics/Phonetics. She continued her postdoctoral research and studies at Georgetown University, D.C., USA and at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN, USA. She has more than 30 publications on her research both in Russian and in English. Since 2007, besides Russian and various courses of ESL, Emilia has taught Second Language Acquisition Theories, Introduction to Russian Culture, and U.S. Culture for Non-Native speakers. She has also advised students on TEFL Minor/Certificate and mentored students in their TEFL practicum abroad. Before joining the UWEC ESL team, Emilia worked as an Associate Professor of Foreign Languages at Bashkir State University in Ufa, Russia, where she taught various aspects of English as a foreign language, the theory of English and Russian, Phonology/Phonetics, and advised graduate students. In addition, she worked for the Swandean School of English in Worthing, U.K.
