Emergency Management
Emergency Management
Emergencies can occur with little to no warning and may be natural or man-made. Some types of emergencies include power outages, tornadoes, fires, chemical spills, and active shooters. Having an emergency plan helps reduce negative effects, increases safety, and promotes proactive planning of future disasters. But just having a plan may not be enough, we need to also be trained and have the knowledge to execute those plans.

Disaster Preparedness
To raise awareness about the importance of being prepared and equipped for a disaster, please see the ideas below. Some simple steps that you can do at home to help feel more prepared for a possible disaster.
- Make a Plan - Talk to your friends and family about how you will communicate before, during, and after a disaster. Make sure to keep your plan updated (include relevant Health Department recommendations).
- Build a Kit - Gather supplies that will last for several days after a disaster for everyone living in your home. Don't forget to consider the unique needs each person or pet may have in case you have to evacuate quickly. Update your kits and supplies as needed.
- Low-Cost, No-Cost Preparedness - Limit the impacts the disasters have on you and your family. Know the risk of disasters in your area and check your insurance coverage. Learn how to make your home stronger in the face of storms and other common hazards and act fast if you receive a local warning or alert.
- Teach Youth About Preparedness - Talk to your kids about preparing for emergencies and what to do in case you are separated. Reassure them by providing information about how they can get involved.
