All-Gender Restrooms
UW-Eau Claire has made a concerted effort to increase the number of all-gender restrooms and currently offers 109 single-stall options in various locations (with more to come!).
Campus Preferred-Name Policy
At UW-Eau Claire, students have the option of changing their name to reflect their identity. This process can be initiated by the student as many times as is necessary. Click here to begin the eform process and to find out which specific areas on campus your preferred name will appear. Students can then go to the Blugold Card Office to get a student ID with their preferred name (free of charge!).
Legally Change Name and/or Gender
There is a specific process to follow when changing one’s legal name and/or gender, and it varies by state. This link provides step-by-step instructions for the state of Wisconsin.
LGBTQIA+ Housing
While each residence hall at UW-Eau Claire is queer friendly, we have designated Rainbow Floors students can choose, if they want to live with other queer students. There is a distinction between the Rainbow Floors Living Community (LC) and the Rainbow Floors Living Learning Community (LLC). Keep reading to learn more!
Rainbow Floor
The Rainbow Floors are a community within UWEC Housing that allows students to share a room regardless of student's assigned sex, gender, or sexual orientation. This means that students can live with whomever they choose. There are a number of reasons students choose to live on the Rainbow Floors, and while those reasons vary, students' experiences on the floors are consistently outstanding.
The Rainbow Floors include programming and community building that focus on the diverse array of identities within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. In Karlgaard Towers, each of the ten floors features all gender restrooms, and staff are on hand to ensure your home away from home is as welcoming and supportive as possible. On the Rainbow Floors, all single- and multi-stall restrooms function as accessible, all gender spaces (including restrooms and showers); there is also an accessible private option for those desiring a bit more privacy.
The Rainbow Floors social spaces are second to none, featuring vibrant, cozy lounge and study options. Additionally, students are surrounded by graphic design elements featuring intersectional, historical queer icons. Did we mention the chalk wall? The student-created hallway graffiti? There's so much to see!
Don't take our word for it; watch this video and hear what students have to say about the Rainbow Floors!
LGBTQIA+ Floor
LGBTQIA+ General Floor is for the full spectrum of LGBTQIA+ students who seek a safe, inclusive and community driven experience.
TGNC Floor
TGNC (Trans + Gender Non-Conforming) Rainbow Floor is for students who identify as trans, non-binary, and/or gender non-conforming and are seeking to live amongst and develop a safe, inclusive community with students of a similar experience.
Rainbow Floor LLC
Engaging in intersectional queer histories and narratives is a critical step in understanding one's own identities. The Rainbow Floor LLC cohort is required to enroll in WGSS 206 - Perspectives in LGBTQ+ Studies (3-cr.).
