Economics Majors and Minors
Sometimes the best way to see the big picture is to dive into the details. The study of economics will provide you with the tools to understand systems as diverse as financial markets, environmental issues, government policy, medical insurance, global economy and social inequities. Our economics program focuses on international and local research and provides a solid preparation for law school or graduate studies.
What I love about economics is the assorted career paths I can pursue with it — the sky is the limit. I value the background it has provided me as I feel it has aided me in becoming a more worldly person and more prepared to enter the workforce.
The path to your success starts here
Choose the study of economics to gain a solid grounding in methods of informed decision-making that will apply across numerous career paths: business, government, law, healthcare and more. You will learn to read and analyze situations and systems to help unravel the complexities of the marketplace, and focus your ability to think critically and creatively. Economics will give you the tools to understand why people and societies make the choices they do, and how those choices underlie the world we know.
What is a comprehensive major?
A 60-credit comprehensive major does not require you to add a second academic plan, such as a minor. The business economics major is a comprehensive major. Our other economics major and minor requires the addition of either another distinct major, a minor, or a certificate. With the assistance of your academic advisor, you may even be able to create your own topical minor.

When you major in economics, you can expect to gain a range of knowledge and skills that will serve you well for a lifetime. We are very proud of the students in our department.
