The Spring Chemical Research Seminar Series features a series of lectures by internal faculty, external faculty, and industrial speakers to introduce students to various research programs.
Speakers will highlight the opportunities and occupational qualifications for careers in chemistry and related fields which require advanced degrees in chemistry. Workshops on skill development in scientific writing and communication will be held on Fridays without speakers. The Chemical Research Seminar is further supported by the CHEM 375 course: Frontiers in Chemical Research Seminar (1 credit, Prerequisite chem 104 or chem 109 or chem 115 or concurrent registration).
The Fall Chemical Industry Seminar Series features a series of lectures by faculty and industrial speakers to introduce students to various chemical and related industries and to the career opportunities and occupational qualifications for careers in chemistry and related fields.
This duration of the seminar series facilitates networking opportunities and skills for the students. The guest speakers often represent their chemical company as recruiters and become a conduit for internships, interviews, mentoring, expanded networks, and employment for our students. Many of the UW – Eau Claire Department of Chemistry alumni stay in contact with our faculty and ask to return as guests of this chemical industry seminar because of their positive experience. This interaction with our alumni supports the retention of strong relationships with our alumni, who are more likely to support growth in our department, as well as promotes our current students to visualize themselves in the future roles of the speaker who once sat in the same audience themselves. The Chemical Industry Seminar is further supported by the CHEM 374 course: Chemical Industry Seminar (1 credit, Prerequisite chem 104 or chem 109 or chem 115 or concurrent registration). Catalog description: A series of lectures by faculty and industrial speakers introduce students to various chemical and related industries and to the career opportunities and occupational qualifications for careers in chemistry and related fields. This course is core to the Chemistry with Business Emphasis Program.
